So a little while back I picked up a rebuilt TT long block minus turbos but with every sensor, a harnass, coil packs, accessories, and every little bracket one could hope for. But long story short, a kid I know bought a new z with a fresh rebuilt engine, drove about 2 months with no problems, then had a "knocking sound" so he pulled and replaced the engine with a JDM one. I picked it up for the cheap after pulling the heads and dropping the pan. I found perfect looking bores @ 87 mm, and brand new eagle rods and wiseco pistons. Still haven't inspected the bearings, and there was zero debris in the oil pan. I was poking around today, and thought I would clean up the piston tops a bit since they were nasty black but underneath look brand spanking new and I think I found the source of the "knocking sound" The pistons are only partially cleaned up, but cylinders #1 and 5 look like something bounced around a bit abd chewed up the piston, this was the worst of the two.
The rest of the pistons looked brand new (might be hard to see since I didn't fully clean them)
This is the worst combustion chamber and my biggest concern, not sure if I would be able to smooth it out, coat it and re-use it.
The rest of the combustion chambers look fine.
